Donovan Caine
Donovan Caine is by all accounts, a scoundrel and a thug. A brute who often deals with others using his knuckles and his brawn. Often sighted under the employ of various organizations or gang located in Ul'dah or the greater Thanalan area. Even under the employ of reputable institutions, he's often hired as muscle for less than savory operations. He's a front line brawler who stands tall despite his midlander stature.
History
25 winters ago, in a back alley brothel in Ul'dah, Donovan entered the world with a fierce cry. His mother, a Doman whore, had no time to raise the newly born child and instead delivered him to the local orphanage. Due to his Doman features, Donovan was isolated from the other children, mocked for being a "pretty boy" in the desert city. That is, until the boy's anger and ferocity bubbled over and he broke his former bullies' teeth with his bare fists.
It was a slippery slope from there. Drunk on the power that came from fear and respect, he got into more fights, settled arguments with violence, and set himself on a darker path. Eventually, the orphanage thought it best for the others to have the boy thrown out onto the streets. They could say he ran away, then the Brass Blades would have nothing to say about that.
Life on the streets was certainly hard on the young Donovan. The food at the orphanage wasn't the best, but at least it wasn't in the muck of the streets. Without a proper answer, naturally Donovan turned to thievery. Being a child, he couldn't beat everyone who walked down the street for their Gil. So he learned to con, to pickpocket and to break into businesses when the moment was right.
Of course, simply flailing your limbs or hitting people with sticks only works on children and the elderly. At some point one has to learn how to fight properly. For this reason, Donovan spent his teenage years near the pugilist's guild, taunting the students into a fight and learning from their technique as their knuckles dug into his cheek and gut.
After a "business meeting" with the Corpse Brigade, he's learned some anti-monk gladiator techniques and even some old Ala Mhigan paladin arts.
Fast forward several years later. While not a larger man, Donovan is certainly no slouch for his height. And his reputation as the King of Ul'dah's thugs does not fall on deaf ears, he's even competed in the Arena as a gladiator multiple times. Whenever a dirty job needs the right muscle, Donovan is a top pick for the job.
RP Hooks
Hired Muscle: You need some help and for whatever reason the Brass Blades ain't keen to pick up the slack. So you offered your coin up to someone with a decent enough rep.
Antagonist: You've been looking into some shady people in Ul'dah, Gridania or even Limsa, you're convinced you're onto something big when this giant of a midlander stops you in an alley and sucker punches you with little to no warning.
Fight Club: If you like to fight in some less than legal spaces then chances are you'd probably run into the cocky bastard.
Bar Chat: If you like what you see and vice-versa, something could take off after a little chat.
Accidental Master of the Fist: In training to fight Monks, he became one and a master at that. Even if he doesn't know it.
Connections
The Immortal Flames: All it takes is one officer willing to look the other way.
The East Aldenard Trading Company: Officially, Donovan has no connection to the esteemed trading company. But sometimes, certain shipments need to get through the city without too many gawkers.
The Mirage Trust: Since the sudden removal of the company's head, the trust has fallen on hard times. They've needed to resort to some less than savory business practices.
The Corpse Brigade: Sometimes a traveling merchant doesn't hire the right muscle, and sometimes that merchant ends up on the wrong end of an ambush outside Little Ala Mhigo.
The Alacran: Dealing with a notorious criminal organization is both economical and social suicide. As such, no good Ul'dah business would be caught dead dealing with such scoundrels. But a local Ul'dah man who simply knows a few bad eggs? That's forgivable.
Limsa Lominsa: There ain't a better place to get contraband goods in all of Eorzea. Whether it's a quick deal near the footfalls or a weekend trip to Vylbrand's beaches, Donovan is fond of his pirate associates.
Out of Character
21+ with eight years of roleplay experience of varying degrees.
I generally play late night EST
I'm much more reasonable and open to discussion OOC than IC.
My character can be villainous but can also be a lesser evil as well. I'm open to whatever ideas come to mind for you.
Comfortable with most themes but will generally stick to what is IC to a reasonable extent. If you're looking to break this man, you will not. Even if you beat him.
Ever been to the moon? its pretty cool.
